Countryside

These pictures cover the time from 11/21/09 to about 12/1/09. More to come very soon!

This is my good friend Samuel. His English is really good, but we mostly speak Chinese together.

I went out to Bai Lian Dong park one night with a friend to go rollerblading. The rink was closed, but I found a really nice hill to roll down!

Photobucket

The view across the parks pond.

I got lost one day trying to find a shortcut home and came across the Zhuhai Sports Center. It's a huge complex with various sports.

At Kevin's karaoke birthday party.

I went for a ride with a friend and we came across JiNan University. This is there gymnasium. Everybody there was surprised to see a foreigner, which confirmed my suspicion that the university doesn't offer Chinese classes.

Photobucket

A panoramic of the University's pond.

On November 30th, Macky called me up and invited me to go out into the countryside with his Father and friends. This is a small town called TaiShan with lots of history behind it.

Photobucket

Sammy, Owen and I goofing off in TaiShan.

About 3-4 hours from Zhuhai was macky's family's village. There were just a handful of houses among huge rice fields. This is our night hike.

Photobucket

The next morning I woke up around 7 and went out exploring. this is the chicken coup.

I ran into Macky's father taking a walk. He told me he had this house built for his family after he had gone out and made some money. It was a surprisingly comfortable 6bed/2bath place and cost him about $23,000 USD.

The rice fields.

This is Macky's Grandfather. As I understand he lives in the house now with a Nanny and Macky's Aunt.

Macky's Father Ma Fei Yue

Duck!

Photobucket

The family dog.

Photobucket

The well. This was not the drinking water supply though. Phew.

Photobucket

Around 10, the rest of the gang woke up so we hopped in the car and drove about an hour to KaiPing for breakfast.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Ths is where we were. Zhuhai is just off the map on the bottom right.

Photobucket

These are called big buns. They're filled with meat and vegetables and were really delicious.

Photobucket

A lot of dumplings. Mmmmm

Photobucket

We left and went to a 'hollywood' of China called KaiPing movie town. Apparently they shoot a decent amount of films here.

Photobucket

This sign had a bunch of the movies that were shot there on it. I didn't recognize any though.

Photobucket

Inside one of the mansions. It was sad how fake all the decorations were. Styrofoam trim, paper tile on the ground, etc.

Photobucket

Now we're in China.

Photobucket

No bookshelf is complete without English books.

Photobucket

wrbmq. This was a good read. The books were just wooden blocks with fake spines glued on.

Photobucket

There was a museum in the back of the mansion.

Photobucket

Fei Yue showing us how they use to gather and cut rice with this tool.

Photobucket

It was a long car ride back.

Photobucket

We returned home for lunch. The ladies had made us a really big lunch with black chicken, regular chicken, fish and other stuff.

Photobucket

The fragrant tree flowers in the yard.

Photobucket

Me on Macky's Aunt's scooter. vroom

Photobucket

This is the house Macky's family used to live in. People don't bother selling their old houses in this village because its so small.

Photobucket

Some sort of grain press/masher tool.

Photobucket

An old carpentry tool.

Photobucket

More tools.

Photobucket

Most of the buildings had these special corners. Apparently cows like to rub up against the corners, so they need to use material that won't fall apart.
